Exploring With Technology

My students need a few iPads and the Osmo kit to enhance their learning and become successful 21st century learners!

My Students

Our school ranges from K-6th grade and has approximately 250-300 students. We are a Title I and Gold Ribbon School. Many of our students come from a variety of economic background. Approximately 69% are socioeconomically disadvantaged. My students are motivated and curious learners who work hard and follow the school's Mission Statement: "Learn, Love, Lead." My students are thrilled and motivated to be in Kindergarten at our school!

We are also a Leader in Me School in which students live the 7 Habits.

This program promotes students to have positive relationships with their peers, adults, and family. As 21st century learners, the 7 habits will strengthen their leadership skills and prepare them for the future. I have a group of Kindergarteners who are curious and excited to learn these habits.

My Project

With a 21st Century learning environment, comes the need of technologies. Using the iPads will allow students to go on technologically-based programs, such as, ST Math and Raz-Kids. ST Math is a visual learning game that enhances students’ mathematical skills through the use of kinesthetic and visual learning. On the other hand, Raz-Kids is an interactive program that offers students comprehensive leveled reading resources to enhance their reading skills. With the Osmo kits, this will allow students to interact much more with the iPads. Students can use the manipulative in the Osmo kit to build spatial awareness, problem solving skills, spelling skills, and much more. This will be a great way for students to use the 4Cs of 21st Century learning: collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking.

My goal is to provide the technologies as a tool to create an interactive, engaging, and 21st Century learning environment for my students.

In addition, I want to provide the technology they need in order to meet their goal of achieving 100% on ST Math by the end of the school year. I also want to expose my students to different technology tools to enhance their learning and build a comfort zone in them to use technology. Thus, they will familiar with technology when they take technologically based testing, such as the Smarter Balance test.
