My Students

My students learn best through hands-on learning, some of them have yet to have a meaningful sensory experience. My students have disabilities and having the needed sensory stimulation is imperative for them to learn and grow.

It is important to provided a hands-on learning opportunity for students but especially for students with disabilities.

With added sensory experiences, combined with the scaffolding of adults and peers, my students will become more perceptive and learn how to be responsible and able to calm them selves during stressful situation by using things in safe appropriate things in their environment. Sensory experiences help to engage children, encourages them to explore through their five senses, and discover the world around them. My students learn best through hands-on learning, due to the lack of resources available; they have yet to explore and build on the necessary motor skills.

My Project

The field trip requested will aid in my instruction, build on students communication, social skills, as well as increase their attention. It will pull them away from the traditional paper/worksheet method of teaching, give them more hands-on experiences, and increase problem solving strategies. My students will learn new words to express what they see, hear, smell, touch, and taste. Every activity in the sensory table is an opportunity to build language skills. With added sensory experiences, combined with the scaffolding of adults and peers, my students will become more perceptive. Visiting the Children Museum will inspire children to become creative thinkers while discovering the building blocks of math, engineering and technology. Students will have the opportunity to build on sensory by using the different tactile materials located at the site. Students will also be able to connect our curriculum with things that they observe.

My students will learn new words to express what they see, hear, smell, touch, and taste.

Every activity completes during this field trip will provide an opportunity to build language skills. Children need to use their senses and be engaged in meaningful experiences. With added sensory experiences, combined with the scaffolding of adults and peers. My students will become more perceptive. Their sensory intake and processing will become more acute. Learning will come alive for them.
