Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My library is in a public inner city school. The students come from low income homes and 100% receive a free lunch. Students in my school come from culturally diverse backgrounds and depend on the school library to offer them books that are diverse, current and up to date. My students enjoy the books I can provide them on a weekly basis because the public library is far away and because they don't have money to buy books. Many of my students are very appreciative when I can put new books in the library and are excited to check them out for the first time. I often hear "Thank you," or get a hug.

My Project

The library in my school needs updated country books. I am slowly replacing the set through DonorsChoose when the books are available. Teachers and students will use these books for projects and reports throughout the school year. In this way the library is not only a support to the curriculum but to the students and teachers as well.

Throughout the school year students like to check out country books that interest them.

Many students check out books from their home country or parents country to learn more about it. Country books help students learn more about the world around them and its diversity. Learning about the diversity of our world can hopefully build better understanding between cultures and a better future!
