My classroom is full of wonderful, eager, and kind students. However, many of them face challenges in their young lives. With a high Hispanic population, as well as high poverty, our students face some challenges that differ from more wealthy counties. These difficulties encourage us to rise above, work hard, and achieve all that we can!
Our county is a beautiful, agricultural community tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Our school district is growing at such a high rate that we are running out of classrooms! As a Title One school, we are a school of high poverty. With such challenges at home, it can be so hard for students to focus on their school work and see it's importance. Finding tools for engagement and motivation are key to promoting academic success in these deserving students.
My Project
Using technology in the classroom is a way to promote students' interest in learning and motivation. Our fourth grade classes unfortunately have outdated technology; with failing devices, it's difficult to adequately prepare our students to thrive in the 21st century. As their teacher, I want them to succeed in school because I know it can lead to a better life!
In order for my students to be invested in their learning, they need to be interested and excited.
One way to do that is to incorporate technology throughout our days. Technology is interesting to them, and anything they can do on a Chromebook or desktop seems to quickly create more engagement.
The addition of 6 Chromebooks in my classroom would make a world of difference. We would love to have touch screen Chromebooks specifically that can also be used as adaptive devices, because it is easier to use for our special needs population. The addition of these in our classroom would mean we can begin using Google Classroom with fidelity, and students would feel more ownership of their work when it's all view-able online. It would mean that when we go on virtual field trips through the use of Google Earth, students could navigate and explore on their own. It would mean that we would have the tools to practice math and literacy skills in an exciting way. Having these students become proficient in technology will only help them in our technology centered world. Please help us to achieve this goal!
