This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our society has become so diverse, teaching tolerance is deeply embedded in my curriculum. In doing this, my hope is that my students gain a deeper appreciation of other cultures, connect the past to their current experiences, and make changes in their communities that will positively impact their future. A primary goal of culturally responsive education is to help all students become respectful of the multitudes of cultures and people that they’ll interact with once they exit the educational setting. I have the pleasure to work at a school with a diverse student population.
Virtual reality (VR), will allow my students to experience immersive environments through the use of VR goggles.
The goal is to provide my students with an opportunity to change their perceptions, behaviors, attitudes, and empathy levels, all of which are critical for enhancing intercultural competence. Using Virtual Reality (VR) to create awareness of global issues, supporting cultural awareness, recognition of diversity and educational access for all. Exposing learners to different cultures from their own and recognition of diversity, by exploring and discussing VR experiences such as “Black & British, a surprising history.:
Introducing Virtual Reality or VR into our schools, allows teachers to “take” the students to places they won’t easily or normally experience or get to know, for example inside the body or under the sea. The technology could also be used for practicing lab experiments, before going into a real lab.
