This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every year we take 150 fourth graders on an overnight field trip to Ely Nevada. For many of our students, this is the first time they have been in a rural setting.

Our school is in a lower working class neighborhood.

Our students are well-behaved, enthusiastic kids who could use a little "boost." Our parents are very supportive but can't always provide the supplies needed for the school year. We are 100 percent free and reduced lunch.

My Project

When we go on our overnighter, we charter buses for the six-hour drive. To keep our students engaged, we provide a Nevada History activity book for them to complete over the two days. To keep our students organized, we need folders to hold the papers, crayons, and pencils.

For many of our students, this is the only chance they will have to experience the unique geology and beautiful rural scenery found in Nevada.

Because of the many challenges faced by our state, we want to educate our students to be responsible, informed citizens.
