Exploring the Lunar New Year in Vivid Colors and 3D

Help me give my students colorful filament to use with our new 3D printer and to help us learn about the Lunar New Year.

My Project

Our class thrives on innovation and creativity, and the more of this that we engage in, the more our students can thrive and find pathways that interest them. The new 3D printer that we had funded allows us to print objects more quickly and efficiently, which means that we need more materials. This project is for 3D printer filament that will allow our students to create in a rainbow of colors. This is more environmentally friendly and sustainable in the long run and will allow students to do projects as enrichment or extensions of what they are learning. With these new color filaments students will be challenged to design articulated snakes with a partner that we will print in vibrant filament colors in the same model and explore the world of the Lunar New Year.

2025 is the Year of the Snake, and I want our students to learn to model in 3D while learning about a new culture.

Our students are creative and thoughtful innovators who are always wanting to learn something new and try out new technologies. We are in the top 2% of most diverse schools in the country and many of our students live at or below the poverty level.
