My Students

ABC…easy as 123…but kindergarten isn’t what is used to be?! Standards have been raised exponentially and there are much higher expectations of our little ones. Kindergarten is no longer learning colors, shapes, letters and numbers. In kindergarten, my kiddos are reading over 100 books and writing 3-4 sentences about author’s purpose by the end of the school year. Let me tell you, they are Jedi masters! My kiddos LOVE Star Wars…however, I have not seen the first movie.

Every single child in my class is extraordinarily unique.

They all learn differently: be it visually, kinesthetically, musically…but they all work toward their common goal of achieving their own successes in the classroom. Throughout this year, my students have taken responsibility in their learning by: possessing the ability to tell you what they are learning, why they are learning a particular topic, rate their individual performance, and set goals for future standards. This is kindergarten, folks! These kiddos will amaze you beyond words, and I am so proud to be their teacher!

My Project

Kiddos deepen their knowledge and learn new information easier through manipulatives and exploration. As a kindergarten teacher, I have found that many children at this age level require sensory, kinesthetic, and manipulative exploration to learn new concepts. It's with these types of activities that my kiddos stay fully engaged in the learning process.

For example, using the Hands-On-Science centers will allow my kids exploration through sand boxes to find fossils and use their detective skills to match the fossil to the animal.

Using the "Unlock-it! Matching" activities gives them opportunities in all subject areas to deepen their knowledge and also work on motor skills in the process. Geoboards and tangrams will give them a fantastic foundation of making new shapes/pictures out of regular shapes, which will help them greatly when they move to older grades. Writing claws will help my kids develop proper pencil-holding skills which are imperative as they progress through their education. As for the "I Know the Answer Game Buzzers"...who doesn't love a little competition?
