Exploring Science in the Classroom.

My Students

I have a classroom full of energetic third graders with the thirst for knowledge. They enjoy talking to each other about their learning and exploring new concepts through hands-on experiences.

My students are from a low income community.

Many of my students do not have the same opportunities of those from more wealthier communities. The school that I work in provides free lunch and breakfast to all students to help with some of the finicial burden that some of our families face. Because the school is in a low income community, we do not always have the funds to buy what we need to help support our students learning. Teachers often will spend their own money to help bridge this gap.

My Project

The resources that I am requesting will help my students learn science the way that it was meant to be learned, through hands on experiences. In the past, science has been taught through a text book. This is not how science should be taught. I want my students to see that science is not meant to be read from a book, but explored. I do have some materials to give them hands on experiences, most of which I have paid for myself. But it is not enough. They really need to have more opportunities to conduct observations and explore concepts in an hands on manner. These materials will make it possible.

If this project is funded, a whole new world will be opened up for my students.

It will give them the chance to really learn what science is and come to love it. It will give my students a chance to really enjoy all that science education has to offer.
