Exploring Robotics with Cubelets

My students need a set of Cubelets to increase their STEM skills and explore the fascinating world of robotics.

My Students

We have recently created a STEM Makerspace in our school's Library Media Center. Our Makerspace is a welcoming learning environment where students are free to explore, collaborate, and problem solve using technology that is geared towards their interests and grade level.

My students are curious and creative learners who have an innate wonderment about the world around them - particularly with regards to technology.

This wonderful sense of curiosity is what we want to encourage in our Library Media Center's Maker Space. Incorporating the Cubelets robotics kit in our school's Maker Space will help them with that educational exploration.

My Project

The Cubelet modular robotics system is designed with simplicity and functionality in mind. Students can safely combine the Cubelets to create their own robots, or follow a set of plans to build pre-designed robots. When designing their robot, students begin with a hypothesis about how the robot should work, and then test this hypothesis by magnetically connecting the modules based upon each module’s function. Some Cubelet modules provide motion, other modules sense what is near them, and other modules use logic to perform specific tasks. The Bluetooth Cubelet allows students to remotely control their robot, and, in a future upgrade, program the robot using a kid-friendly block-based computer language. The Cubelets system also interfaces with Legos, which adds another creative dimension to what the students can design.

The Cubelets robotics kit will allow our students to collaborate with their peers to understand, design, problem solve, and build robotic creations.

These important intellectual skills will be carried with them as they progress throughout their educational careers, and will give them the interest and confidence to explore other areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
