My students need copies of The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Eaton's classroom raised $830

My Students
My students attend a college preparatory high school in Philadelphia. The majority of our students will be first generation college graduates. Most of them have been refining their college wish lists since middle school. As seniors, they are now preparing for their post-secondary education.
We believe that each student is capable of going TO and THROUGH college.
At the same time, our limited resources often present unique challenges that we must overcome. Our students are extremely eager to learn and driven to succeed at competitive colleges. As a school, we hold high expectations and nurture students to become independent scholars.
My Project
By funding this project, you will give students the opportunity to carry individual copies of the text to bring home, read, and analyze.
Through Morrison's beautiful prose, students will explore racial identity and American standards of beauty.
Students will develop essential reading skills by closely analyzing Morrison's literary choices.
Students will develop a deeper understanding of how literature functions as an agent for change in society. They will explore Morrison's views on racial identity and gender. By the end of the unit, students will develop college level discourse and written analysis. They will also share their insights with underclassmen who are reading a similar text.
