My students have got grit. They have not been dealt the best hand in life but they attend school and are eager to learn. Most of my students live below the poverty line. Many are in temporary housing and struggle to meet basic needs at home. Yet, they still come to school each day with a smile.
I admire my students.
They endure every day obstacles that I could never imagine as a child. Inside of my classroom, we are a community of learners. With the help of DonorsChose, my students don't need to "stress" about the basics in the classroom. They can let their guard down a bit and absorb the school experience "just like any other kid."
My Project
Most of my students have never left the local community. They are bound to their hometown due to their socio-economic status. With a Scholastic News subscription, my students can see parts of the world they would never get a chance to see.
My students will become explorers!
They will utilize the sharpies to mark the text in the glossy magazine. They will have colorful, vibrant images to give them a visual of unknown places and concepts. The added digital access will allow my class to view video clips to support their learning. I cannot wait to share this resource with my students!
