Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are curious, energetic, and loving 3-5 year olds. They are eager to explore the world around them. Last year my students, their families, and the surrounding communities were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Many of their homes were damaged leading to my students being displaced. For a couple of months, the normalcy of their school routines was altered due to the effect that Hurricane Harvey had on our Title I school.

My students need to be able to have multiple opportunities to fulfill their sensory needs.

My students are hands-on learners who also need to move around while they are learning. In my classroom, we learn in a play-based natural environment in which my students are able to explore educational concepts while still meeting their individual needs. My goal is to provide my students with every opportunity to fulfill their educational, emotional, and individual needs so they can be successful in school and at home.

My Project

Each of my students have different needs which require various sensory resources. The chew bracelets and necklaces will provide the sensory input that my oral sensory seekers are needing. The bubble tube lamp will provide a visual need along with a calming sensation in my classroom. Some of my students are visual avoiders. Bright lights such as our fluorescent lights can cause my students eyes and head to hurt. The fluorescent light covers will help reduce the bright lights in our classroom creating a calming effect. With the silishape sensory mats and the square sensory mats, I will be able to create a sensory area in our classroom that will provide the tactile needs of my students. The weighted lap pads will help provide my students with the heavy weight needed for input for their proprioception system allowing them to be able to focus on our lesson. The flexible sensory seat options will provide not only tactile for my students but will also provide input for the proprioception and vestibular sensory systems.

My students need to be able to meet their sensory needs in order to achieve success in our classroom.

By meeting their individual needs, I will be giving them the support that they are needing to achieve being successful. My classroom is one in which there is always nurturing support and love for my students to blossom to their fullest potential. By providing them the materials that they need to meet their sensory needs, I will be able to help them grow.
