My Students
Our first grade is made up of 32 general education students and students with special needs. Most come from homes with parents who speak another language. Our amazing new 6-year-olds have not been in a classroom for the past 6 months due to Covid-19. Now they are entering school for another year during these unprecedented times, and have to adapt to new norms. Some students will be learning in a fully remote environment, but will still need the same tools that they would receive in school.
My Project
This project, these items, will help bring our students' imaginations to life! We want to make sure that our students have a fun and engaging experience in school. Our first graders need to be able to explore! Our class is made up of 32 kids, some having IEPS, and all from families that do not speak English.
Our kids need to be able to explore their creative side and with all of these supplies, they will be able to do that!
Many of our students will be returning from a year of remote learning, which means that they have had little opportunity to interact with other students and use the creative sides of their brains. With these craft supplies, students will be able to explore and interact with materials that they would not have access to at home. We will also be able to use these materials in our Social-Emotional Learning lessons so that students who cannot articulate their feelings may be able to express them through art. At this time, our students' social-emotional needs are equally, if not important than their academics. We need to ensure the students' social-emotional needs are met so that they can grow academically. Each one of these craft supplies will be used for all academic areas, helping the kids express what they have learned in a creative way!
