Help me give my students comfortable seating options to read our new diverse literature!

My Students
I teach in Washington, D.C., in one of the most under-served communities of our nation's capitol. However, you would never know that from meeting my students. The incredible kids I have the honor of teaching are some of the most hard-working and optimistic people I have ever met. They come in with a smile on their faces every day, and are, simply put, SO excited to learn. Every teacher says this, but my kids are truly special and they deserve the world.
I firmly believe that every single child in my classroom can and will succeed, regardless of their zip code.
These kids are our future, and it is my job to prepare them to lead. One of the ways I plan to do this is by instilling in them a love of learning and, more specifically, a love of reading. By captivating them with books of all genres, they will leave first grade with a wealth of knowledge and a deep passion to seek out learning wherever they can find it.
My Project
I strive to create a classroom where students can fall in love with reading. Flexible seating provides students with the chance to curl up with a good book and get lost in literature. Students are able to take control of their learning and work in ways that feel best for them.
My students will be global citizens, and these diverse books will help prepare them for that future while allowing them to better examine their own identities.
Truth is found in storytelling, and allowing students the opportunity to examine a variety of lived experiences through books helps them better understand the world we live in.
By providing my students with flexible seating options and a variety of diverse texts, I hope to help them fall in love with reading and fall in love with themselves.
