Exploring Math Through Manipulatives!

My students need coins, blocks/tiles, counters, links, sequencing games, and counting games.

My Students

Math is a constant topic in the early childhood classroom. We are working with different math skills everyday in class, whether it is beginning algebra, geometry, graphing, counting, or something else!

My students come from a background where they will not get much experience working with math materials, unless it is in school.

The school is 87% free and reduced lunch and struggles when it comes to math test scores. A lot of parents in my school work multiple jobs, have multiple children, and don't have time to always work with their children. So, these materials would help me provide more experience with math concepts!

My Project

My plan is to use these materials everyday in the classroom with my students. I will use them as supplements and materials in the lessons that I plan to help better teach the concepts and skills. My students will use these manipulatives in different whole group lessons, small groups when needed, independent work, and centers.

I think that it is important for children to be able to actually see and experience math as opposed to just reading about it or seeing pictures in a text book.

Children need to experience materials and concepts in order to better understand them. These materials and manipulatives will give them that opportunity.
