My students need materials to assist with building and exploring magnets and their properties.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. McCabe's classroom raised $189

My Students
I teach in an inner-city, Title I school with 26 Kindergarten students. These students are passionate to learn and are in need of varied, differentiated learning opportunities. The cut-off for students enrolling in Kindergarten in our district is December 31st, which puts the range of age in my classroom of students between 4-year-olds, 5-year-olds, and 6-year-olds.
All of my students are ready to learn; however, the learning takes place at a variety of levels: below, at, and above Kindergarten grade level.
Some students come in with little to no understanding of letter names, letter sounds, and number sense, while some students come in ready to read.
I am always seeking ways to expand their knowledge by meeting students right where they are through differentiated instruction.
My Project
These materials will provide for open-ended exploration of magnets. We currently have a set of 32 pieces; however, we need a larger set for the students to be able to choose to explore on their own. While we work on building as a team, many students have individual ideas, but not the materials bring those ideas to light. This additional set will allow them to do so.
Students can construct and problem-solve their way to building houses, bridges, roads, and much more.
These materials are meant to expand our current magnet unit. Students will be very excited to receive these additional Magna-tiles, as they have been asking for me to help them get more.
