My students need four Sex in a Dish: C-FERN Life Cycle Kit, four C-Fern spores, one C-Fern Basic Medium and one C-Fern manual to explore the life cycle of ferns.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. K.'s classroom raised $521
This project is fully funded
My Students
Students will culture ferns to help them understand the life cycle of a seedless plant. The students will observe the gametophyte and sporophyte stage in ferns. They will also learn sterile techniques to culture the fern spores.
The students in my class come from an inner city environment.
The most important thing for many of these students is making science fun and interesting. These activities I am asking for will give the students an inquiry-based science education into culturing fern spores and observing their life cycle.
My Project
The four C-Fern kits, C-Fern spores and culture medium will allow students to conduct various experiments exploring the life cycle of ferns. Students will have to learn how to culture the spore under sterile conditions, make observations of the development of the spores. This lab will stress the importance of making and writing a detailed description of the growth of ferns.
These experiments will allow students to culture fern spores.
The students will have to draw and write a detailed report describing the growth of the fern spores. Students will be able to see the development of the fern which is much better than having them read about it in a book. They will have a much better understanding of alternation of generation in seedless plants. This lab will stress the importance of making observations and writing a detailed description of the growth of ferns.
