My Project
These powerful text sets provide narratives that explore critical themes of conflict, survival, human rights, and history across different periods and geographies. As a Title I campus, our classrooms are home to a vast array of socioeconomic diverse families. Reading as a class will allow the necessary differentiated instruction and guided conversation to meet the needs of all student levels.
By incorporating these books into our curriculum, we aim to deepen students' understanding of refugees, the Revolutionary War, and World War II while fostering empathy, critical thinking, and global awareness.
In reading a Long Walk to Water, our students will learn to empathize with the hardships of displaced people, as well as the war on civilian populations. Woods Runner will serve as a springboard for discussions on the causes and consequences of the Revolution, while establishing personal connections to the historical struggles faced by families during that time. Number the Stars will lead to a critical reflection on themes such as courge, sacrifice, and the moral choices faced during times of oppression.
With your support, we can ensure that students are provided with the resources they need to engage meaningfully with history and become informed, compassionate leaders.
