Exploring Hidden Figures in Our Classroom!

Help me give my students headphones and flexible seating while they learn about "Hidden Figures."

My Project

The SEED School is Maryland's only public, free of charge, boarding school and serves the underserved from all over the state. My classroom is full of curious, energetic, and motivated students who are eager to learn, but they need help from you to take their 4th quarter curriculum to the moon.

When children read books that represent them, they build a strong sense of identity and know that they are seen and valued.

This is why I'm requesting copies of "Hidden Figures" by Margot Lee Shetterly. This book tells the inspiring true story of the African American women who played a key role in NASA's space program during the 1960s. Studying "Hidden Figures" teach my students the power of perseverance, determination, and critical thinking in the face of adversity.

Our curriculum materials are 100% web based, and while the school provides Chromebooks for each student, they do now provide headphones. We need durable, wired, over-ear headphones so my students can stay focused and engaged during our lessons. Headphones will also allow our emerging readers to participate in a critical reading intervention program.

Finally, I am asking flexible seating options. Traditional desks and chairs are not always the best fit for every student and, let's face it, 7th grade is hard! Flexible seating can help students regulate their own needs and provide options for much needed movement during class minimizing behaviors and distractions.
