My Students
I teach 11th grade English at a college prep high school that requires that all students follow a course of study that leads to a university or college. However, many of the students at this school are not prepared for the rigors of this level of academic challenge.
I believe it is my task to prepare them.
I believe that literature circles, through choice and discussion, have the power to change non-readers into students working on increasing their abilities to read. These changes will lead academic skill and belief in the idea of going to college.
My Project
We need 25 copies of "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass" and "Twelve Angry Men" so my students will be able to dramatically improve their individual literacy and develop as readers. Students with increased levels of literacy who choose to read are more likely to be interested in attending college.
I know that times are tough, but these books will provide greatly needed aid on their road to college.
My student and I are working very hard to change their academic futures, but we need help in the form of books that are essential to 11th grade English.
