My Project

My goals for this project is to allow my high school students to use various mediums in order to create expressive visuals while at the same time developing confidence.

Feelings of confidence and possibility will emerge as my students use these diverse mediums, encountering ways to create that include textures, colors, movement, & patterns.

My rural students may never have had the opportunity to select mediums that appeal to them and fit their personal creative narrative.

It has been shown that just the simple process of using different types of mediums in art has a profound impact on how students are able to express their feelings and the world around them.

When students are able to have choices, it empowers them even if it is only art supplies. In addition, having various supplies allows a multitude of sensory experiences, such as touch, sound, sight and smell. This interaction with the sensory input can relate to emotional states. Using a variety of art materials that have fluid qualities tend to increase expressiveness. The fun and creativity born of this expression may improve a student’s confidence and spawn a positive attitude and outlook.

Through the use of various methods students gain confidence and are then able to more fully express themselves. The nature of concentrating on the methods used to produce their art is additionally calming. Therefore, the freedom to be able to choose from a variety of materials empowers students to create art they envision as well as craft a more confident future.
