My Students
My students are over-aged, under-credited young adults from the ages of 16-21 who have struggled to earn credits in a traditional high school. Instead of dropping out, they have transferred into our school and decided to utilize this last opportunity to try to obtain their high school diploma. We provide them with the opportunity to earn more credits at a faster pace so they can "catch up" and graduate before ageing out of the system.
A majority of them live in low, socio-economic communities where the families struggle to make ends meet every day.
Consequently, many of our young adults hold jobs after school (or overnight before school) so that they may assist with the financial burden.
When it comes to our students, there isn't one mold that will fit all. They all come with there own personal stories. There always seems to be a turning point in their life which has caused them to push their education to the side. We have recognized this as a school and fully understand that every student needs individualized attention, counseling, and engaging activities in the classroom.
My Project
Our young adults always seem to be over-consumed with style and fashion. We would love to take this deeply-routed interest and show them the variety of ways that they can begin designing their own clothing.
By using the cricut maker, our students would be able to explore their unique talents, tap into their own personal creative mind and have the opportunity to design their own apparel.
Our students have so many incredible ideas for fashion and style but they have never been given the opportunity to execute these concepts. Many of our students don't realize that they posses the skills to be a talented designer. Once we give them the chance to explore the world of fashion, we hope they'll be able to turn their passion into a career.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
