My Students

Our KIPPsters love science! They love getting their hands dirty, they love seeing things up close, and they love experimenting! As their teacher, I often struggle to keep up with their appetite for experimentation because of a lack of resources at the school, but electromagnets are within our reach!

Our scholars attend a KIPP charter school that accepts no excuses as we climb the mountain to college.

They go to school longer than their peers and they do more homework. They are pushed to do their absolute best at everything they do, no matter the circumstance that surrounds them. Because of all they do, we as teachers try to make their learning as much fun as it can possibly be, so that they never get tired of learning!

My Project

Batteries. Wire cutters. Wire. Such simple things will have an amazing impact in my class, teaching lessons that go far beyond what is in the curriculum. Yes, they will learn how an electromagnet works and how they are used. They will also learn how to work together to solve a problem, they will learn the importance of carefully following directions, and they will learn how fun it can be to be a scientist. To have so many other lessons be taught, in addition to thoroughly covering our standards, is any teachers dream!

My students prove every single day that it is not how you start in life, but how you finish.

They accept no excuses about the area that they are from as they work to climb the mountain to college. By providing these students with the resources they need, you can help send a strong message about what we can expect from our educational system.
