Exploring Electricity and Magnetism In A Physical Science Class
My students need the Electricity lab kit and the Exploring Magnetism kit to explore concepts of electric currents, open and closed circuits, series and parallel circuits, and permanent and temporary magnets.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a low-income/high poverty school district. I teach an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Physical Science class of eleven nine graders. The students of my Physical Science class are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. All my students have specific learning disabilities. Despite the challenges they face, my mission is to provide effective learning opportunities for all my exceptional children. I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
The Exploring Electricity lab will allow the students to explore open and closed circuits, series and parallel circuits, identify conductors or insulators, and investigate static electricity. The Exploring Magnetism lab will allow the students to classify magnetic and non-magnetic materials, explore how the compass react to the magnetic field, and create an electromagnet.
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by deepening their understanding and knowledge of science concepts.
My students will benefit from conducting investigations in the physical science class since doing hands on activities will allow them to make connections between science concepts and objects in daily life. If the students know that in the science class we will be doing hands on activities and projects, they will be eager to be in the classroom. Knowing that in the science class students will be doing hands on activities will result in making the students more engaged in the classroom and be happy to be in the classroom, improving and making the difference in their school lives.
