My class is known as The K/1 Explorers. I have some of the most creative and amazing neurodivergent students who love to explore. I am always looking for ways to elevate their learning. Therefore, I have implemented a soft start to the day with D.E.A.R, puzzles, drawing and games. The D.E. A. R. acronym stands for Drop Everything and Read.
I have also created a few soft areas in the classroom.
A soft area indicates that students can use bean bags or carpet in an area instead of chairs. The classroom library is an area where I would like to turn into a soft area so that the students can have a place to sit and read. In addition, they can use the carpet for drawing, puzzles and games.
The beautiful carpet that I have selected will help my students by giving them an additional seating option to make more effective learning choices.
