My Students
As Eleanor Roosevelt stated, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” My enthusiastic students are academically-motivated teens in grades 10- 12 from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds with unique interests, abilities, passions, and goals. They have big dreams of attending top schools and making our world a better place.
My students dream big, want to learn and do more, but they often experience the stresses of being a teenager in the 21st century.
According to a 2018 survey, many teens don’t believe their schools have done enough to help them deal with stress. Research demonstrates that the integration of social, emotional, and academic development matters because it gives students a better chance of thriving in school, career, and life. The focus of my project is to help my students learn the principles of surviving the challenges of their teenage years, while also learning invaluable skills as they transition to the demands of young adulthood and college life.
My Project
Help me give my students access to quality reading materials to explore, excel, and transform their high school experience for future success with a relevant book that addresses social and emotional learning and college preparation.
My goal with this project is to provide my students with an easy-to-use book, The Stress Survival Guide for Teens: CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) Skills to Worry Less, Develop Grit, and Live Your Best Life, a book they may not have considered reading.
They will gain new knowledge, social and emotional skills, and strategies that focus on reducing the stress and anxieties of growing up in an uncertain world. Students will have the opportunity to check out the book from our resource library, discuss topics in small groups or one-on-one with a counselor, and write and reflect about their learning.
If our students are learning remotely, they will have the tools to give themselves the structure necessary to be productive while at home. Through your donations, my students will gain access to valuable knowledge and social and emotional learning skills: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. This will make them better prepared for acceptance to universities and colleges, and ultimately allow them to make important contributions to our society. Thank you for touching the lives of our young adults, our future leaders!
