This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom has lots of energy and interest in science and we have already done a few experiments. The students enjoy hands on activity and since they come from a low income area, they do not have the opportunity to visit places like the Exploratorium. This would keep their interest in science.
Our school is a Title 1 school and most of the students are English Language Learners.
Most of the parents were born outside of the United States. The students are generally optimistic. Our school is an advocate for science training for teachers and we have a partnership with a large biotech firm that offers science classes for students which they enjoy very much.
My Project
My students enjoy hands on science activities, and for them to see all sorts of hands on activities at the Exploratorium would be a great treat and inspiration for them. They will learn about magnets, electricity, psychology, the environment and sound as a few examples.
This will keep the students interested in science and STEM.
This can also turn the few students not interested in science to appreciate it. This will motivate students to be interested in a field that can provide them with great opportunities. I want my students to be curious and this trip will help me do that.
