My students are full of wonder and curiosity. They are constantly exploring the world around them and learning new things every day. Pre-K is all about hands-on learning and my students love to dig in with all their five senses.
My students come from all different types of backgrounds and cultures.
Many of them have little or no experience with the world around them. Their parents have limited resources and are unable to buy them educational toys to help them progress and succeed. Their main experience comes from my classroom and the trips I take them on.
Even after 17 years of teaching it still amazes me as I watch them grow and learn. Pre-K students have an amazing ability to soak in information. The growth in their maturity and learning is so rapid. The more we expose them to, the more they grow. The metamorphosis throughout the year is absolutely the most incredible sight I have ever seen.
My Project
Pre-K students learn best through hands-on experience. It is amazing to see their eyes light up when they truly understand a concept that we have been reading and talking about. My Pre-K students are mostly non-English speaking children, for them, it is essential for them to have as many hands-on experiences as possible. The sand and water table helps them to learn concepts about the world around us through their sense of touch. The sand table we have now is very small and hard to work in. Often the sand spills over the sides of the sand table and leaves little or no sand for them to explore with. The children would love to have more space to continue their exploration, experiments, and learning experience.
