This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students face a lot of difficult circumstances. They try the best they can even though they come from low-income homes, face homelessness, and sometimes are in foster care.
Regardless of some of their circumstances, they have a drive to be better.
My students focus to complete high school, better themselves, and strengthen their communities.
My Project
As a high school math teacher, I teach juniors and seniors in my statistics course.
My students always ask, "When will we use this in real life?"
We can better our communities by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. Students will begin by creating a questionnaire where students can ask their peers (seniors and juniors) important questions about voting. They can ask if they have registered, have they researched the candidates, legislation, and what their peers need in order to make a decision when voting.
Students will state whether their survey was random and can represent their entire student population. They may want to conduct interviews of their peers as well. They will be able to come up with a plan to target students they feel may be at risk of not voting due to insufficient recourses to research topics.
Students will then need to store all this data in order to compile a data bank, and the hard drive is a perfect place to store all the important data they collected. Students will present their findings in various forms. When presenting data in a News Room, students will be able to use the ear pods as a method to assist one another in presenting the data. One student can give important points to the other via ear piece.
