My Project
My students are thoughtful, inquisitive, and eager to connect what they learn in class to real human experiences. Students typically learn about the Holocaust in 10th grade, but I want them to go beyond just hearing a story to truly visualizing and feeling it. That’s why I’m requesting a class set of Art Spiegelman’s Maus.
This full-length graphic novel tells the true story of a Holocaust survivor—Spiegelman’s father—using stark, haunting visuals that make history personal and real.
It offers students an immersive way to understand this history, showing the human impact of genocide in an accessible, deeply moving format. Alongside Maus, students will read informational texts for historical background, analyze propaganda to understand how hatred spread, and study an excerpt of Night.
Supporting this project will provide each student with their own copy, ensuring everyone can fully participate in reading, discussion, and meaningful reflection. Your support will help my students develop empathy, critical thinking, and a lasting understanding of Holocaust history.
