My Project

Pre-k students learn best through play and conversations with their peers. Combining experience, academics and social emotional learning is highly engaging.

Creating a classroom experience that ties science and social studies Pre-K guidelines to all other academic content.

This method of experience based learning creates background knowledge, high engagement and enhances conversations between students and teachers. Pet central will submerge my students in the science of taking care of pets while learning early literacy skills, essential math skills and social emotional learning

Students will focus on the care of pets such as dogs, cats, hamsters, and birds. Students will match cat collars affixed with a ten frame to a cat with corresponding numbers, dogs affixed with uppercase letters to the cage with lower case letters while also feeding, watering and bathing these animals.

Our school is made up of 84.4% economically disadvantaged students. Many of our students do not or have never had a pet in their home. Creating these experiences will allow students to have deeper understanding of the needs of people and pets. Students will learn compassion and empathy through caring for these pets and helping their peers.
