Experience Creating Understanding-Surfboard Fins

My students need supplies for a career project that will enable them to understand what they will need to understand in order to start in the field.

My Students

My students are amazing. They come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. They range from having mild to severe disabilities. My students come from all over my city to attend our high school. Students travel by bus, trolly, bicycles, and any other method you could imagine.

My students want to be more than their parents, and create households enriched in culture, education, and love.

I currently have a group of young men interested in surfboard fin creation, and they are interested in surfboard fin design. Many are from very low income and poverty.

My Project

The materials for this project will give my students experiences that will enable them to have understanding about a job field. My students do not have access to construction style materials, because the school I am at, does not offer any construction related electives. I will teach them how to make surfboard fins. I am requesting raw materials like resin and safety materials, such as gloves, for the project. Each student will have fiberglass, resin, safety equipment, and access to tools to actively learn.

These materials will give my students an opportunity to have a real life and hands on experience.

I have a few young men who are constantly asking me about surfboard design, and are interested in learning about fiberglass construction. I will teach them how to make surfboard fins. They will get a first hand experience with this project. They will learn so much about planning, construction measurements, safety, and patience.
