Expanding Vocabulary in Early Childhood

Help me give my students a variety of tools to build their vocabularies. These books, vocabulary cards, and letters will help them make connections with our world and communicate with others.

My Students

I am so excited to be moving into a new role as an early childhood special education teacher for this school year. I will have new incoming preschoolers, as well as many returning students in pre-k that I am familiar with from last year. My students love spending their days reading books to one another, exploring new topics, and using their imaginations.

Our school is a diverse community of learners from many different backgrounds and abilities.

Despite any challenges my students may face both in and out of the classroom, they come to school each day with an eagerness to learn and have fun. They know our classroom is a safe space to explore, make mistakes, and learn together. I am so excited of all the things we will accomplish together as a team!

My Project

My students will be able to use these materials in a variety of ways. The books will help them learn basic print concepts, as well as new vocabulary that they will be able to incorporate into their daily lives. These specific books were also picked so that my students will be able to see themselves and their journeys in text form with characters that share a similar experience.

I will use the vocabulary to have students recall things that they already know and explore new items that can be found all around us in our world.

We will make connections to our families, our school, and even texts that we read together. Students will use the alphabet supports to learn letters and sounds, as well as make connections to words and objects that have the same letters.
