My Students
My students are eager and excited about music. Prior to my hire in 2013, the school did not have a music teacher for 8 years. They come to school each day talking about songs from many genres. They are so eager to learn new music concepts and songs. Many of my primary students (est. 300) loves to dance and sing, while my intermediate students (est. 200) enjoy the games, music history, and music composition apps with the music curriculum. I want to be able to provide these learners with an opportunity to expand their creativity and provide state-of-the-art music lessons.
My Project
Our school is the ONLY school in the district to implement the Quaver's Music Curriculum. Quaver's Music Curriculum is a computer-based music learning program. With the use of a Promethean, Smartboard, whiteboard or wall space, a laptop and a projector, students can read, listen, count, analyze, compare, sing, dance, and create music. A daily activity, in my classroom, includes students singing via karaoke style. This develops learners' reading skills (fluency, diction, phrasing, rhythms, rhymes, etc.), aural and tonal skills, and listening skills.
The new projector will allow my visual learners to see musical notations, dynamic markings, and historical video clips of music eras, as well as provide an easy visual connection for them to display their audio compositions.
What has become a problem, during my tenure, is the projectors in the building are either antiquated or none existing. The financial cost for a projector for this music class is not a priority over general classroom technical needs and inventory. Sharing projectors with a general classroom teacher becomes problematic-at best. By having a projector for my music class, all students will be able to focus on expanding their love for learning music!
