My Students
My students are a diverse and creative group of individuals who are rediscovering their love of reading! They come from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds and do not let the hurdles they must overcome stop them from achieving their goals. As the librarian at our high school, I know how important it is for the library to be accessible to all students and for our students to see themselves represented in the books they read.
My students need books to spark their interest, their imagination, and be as diverse as they are.
Our goal is to take our reluctant readers and turn them into voracious readers!
My Project
Our high school library is in need of diverse and engaging non-fiction books to continue to ignite our student's love of learning and to broaden their world view. These books will support an aging and out-dated library collection.
These books will humanize history in a way textbooks cannot and transport students into different times and places they never imagined.
These books will support reading and learning through student research and independent reading. Reading and learning must be accessible to all students and when students can see themselves represented in the books they read, they transform from reluctant readers to engaged readers.
