Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class consists of 12 amazing students. Of those students I have five students in autism spectrum disorder. With a small class all students are given adequate attention to help flourish in their academics. My students are all creative and take initiative in their own learning every day in our classroom. They are always asking questions for further understanding when something new is presented to them. All of my students enjoy activities that involve the use of technology and tactical materials. My students are inquisitive and often explore beyond our intended lessons. My students are highly motivated and often teach me things, and I appreciate that most about my class.
My Project
The materials will make a difference in the way my students read inside and outside of our classroom. The guided reading books will help create a more print-rich classroom and expand on my students' interest. My students spend a good portion of the day on the rug near our library area. Every book in our classroom library has been selected based on the expressed interest of my students. After having students complete a reading survey I gained a better understanding of students' interests and hobbies.
My students are special needs and often express difficulties reading independently.
With these guided reading books I will be able to provide each student with the adequate attention needed to help further literacy skills. Having a wide variety of options will encourage my population of students to want to read in guided reading groups as well as independently.
