Expanding Our Minds to Understand Others Through Compassion.
Help me give my students the opportunity to see the world through their peers. This will allow kindergarteners the opportunity to learn compassion, empathy, and understanding their own emotions through books, colors of the world, and flexible seating.

My Project
This project is very special to me because it will help allow the students in my classroom to see the world through another lens.
A lens that doesn't discriminate or place judgment but instead teaches students to lead with love and compassion.
This project contains items that will help my students empathize and understand what their peers might be going through. For example, my classroom has students with disabilities. This requires some of them to have flexible seating. I asked for a few different flexible seating options and will teach the other students that it is okay to not always have the same things as our friends because our needs might differ. By providing students opportunities to learn about compassion through read-aloud books, they will better relate to others' experiences. By listening and completing activities related to the books, they will use resources like the skin color crayons to connect what they are learning to their lives and families.
After learning about the various needs and challenges their peers face, students will engage in activities that help others. For instance, they will learn to create personalized support plans for their classmates who require flexible seating or other accommodations. Additionally, they will participate in a project where they design and distribute comforting items, like customized bookmarks or handmade cards, to peers who might need a boost of encouragement.
To measure the success of this compassion project, I will ask all students to define compassion at the beginning and end of the project. Also we will track progress using the mood meter, which helps them identify and express their emotions. Providing incentives such as the piñata toys, and personal breathing charts will help assess their understanding of compassion, as they will identify the feelings of others, themselves, and characters in books.
