Help me give my students books they have been asking for since the beginning of school! My students love graphic novels and manga and we are going to read Ghost as a class!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Sixth grade is an essential year in my students’ time in middle school. They are growing into young people, and they are excited about the opportunities afforded to them as some of the newest members of the middle school community, but they are still young and eager to learn about all that they can.
My students are continuing their journey as readers and I want to make sure they are reading and learning in a space that they feel safe and comfortable in.
They are getting ready to explore the world and I want to give them every opportunity to do so, in life and in books.
My Project
This school year I am the proud reading teacher of about 60 sixth graders. Since the beginning of the year, I have been getting to know my students and what they love to read. What I have discovered is they love Japanese manga, graphic novels, and stories written about people that remind them of themselves.
These books will help expand my classroom library to include books that they love and are excited to read.
The Naruto volumes, Dairy of a Wimpy Kid, and Dog Man, and Percy Jackson books will be huge hits since my students ask for more copies of them every day.
The copies of Ghost will be used to teach my next reading unit during the second quarter of the school year. My students have been loving other books by Jason Reynolds and I am excited that they will be able to learn about literary elements such as character development, theme, and supporting a thesis while reading a book about a student they can relate to on a personal level.
