My students need Spanish Books to read because they are English Language Learners new to the U.S. and I'm a new teacher with no Spanish books in my classroom library
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have yet to be sucked into a book in their native language, where they can be taken away to a new world through that book. In a new country, in a new place, listening to a new language, my ELL students are intimidated by the English Language whirling around them.
My students are new to the country.
Their native language is Spanish. They are new to the school and new to being exposed to the English language. They attend a public inner city school in New York and are adapting to living in the United States for the first time. In the classroom there are no Spanish books for them to read and feel comforted by. In order to ease them into the school setting, and feel like a true student, Spanish books are important for them to fit in.
My Project
With these Spanish books, my new students will be able to fit in with their peers. They will be able to follow along with the rigorous curriculum they are expected to learn so rapidly and in depth. With these books, my students will be able to enjoy reading for comprehension and understanding books in their native language.
This project is so important to me because I am a first time third grade teacher.
I entered a classroom with little supplies and nothing that would help aide my Spanish speaking students. As a teacher I feel helpless because I can not help them fit in and feel as if they can do what other students are doing in the classroom. I want them to learn the same curriculum as the other English speaking students. Thank you for taking the time to read my project!
