Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a second grade teacher, where we are using the Daily 5 system in reading. During the Daily 5, students are in charge of their own learning by choosing activities of their own choice. Daily 5 is the perfect way to introduce technology in reading.
I teach at a school where the majority of our students come from low income families and many are lacking technology in their homes.
I have a class of 30 students and the only technology we have in our classroom is my computer and smart board. This generation of students needs to be very familiar with technology because not only are our lives compromised with technology in all areas, but students will now be doing their state testing on computers. Incorporating technology into my classroom is a crucial part to my students learning in all areas since not much can be done outside of school due to the lack of technology.
My Project
What I envision my students doing with iPads are working with them during the Daily 5. iPads have so many apps that can be downloaded for all subjects. With iPads in our classroom, we would be using them for reading, math, and exploring science and social studies. With iPads in our classroom, students can discover and learn many more things and virtually travel the world. iPads can be used as an enrichment activity as well as an intervention tool for students that need extra help.
Having iPads in our classroom will change my students' lives for the better because they will be introduced to technology at an early age and will be able to expand their learning through different apps that can be downloaded for all learning subjects in 2nd grade.
I know my students would be beyond grateful if any of these awesome devices were incorporated in our classroom.
