Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a unique and amazing campus. We are a K-8 specialty school designed to meet the needs of working parents employed in the downtown area of a large, urban school district. The students are chosen by lottery, and there is a long waiting list for admission. This year, 2020-2021, we will be providing all instructional services through online learning.

Distance learning a big challenge, and one we will excel at, just as we did with on-campus learning.

Update: We have been "Zoomschooling" for 65 days now, and most of the children are thriving. It has been an honor to rise to this challenge. Update #2. After 100 days of virtual school, we can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Teachers are beginning to take the vaccines in hope of returning to school soon.

I teach a double class and "share" 38 kindergartners with a strong teaching partner. We collaborate daily to provide the best learning opportunities we can to create students who are well-rounded and fully engaged in learning. The children are bright and inquisitive. All the work we do during the COVID-19 Pandemic will be streamed simultaneously to both classes.

My Project

My kindergarten classroom is currently virtual due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, but we hope to return soon. One of the favorite areas in my classroom is the building center where we have lots of different types of blocks, Magna-tiles, play people and animals and other items with which to stretch our imaginations while we work on strengthening our motor skills.

It is almost Abraham Lincoln's birthday, and every year I wish I had a set of Lincoln Logs to show the children how log buildings are put together.

We make miniature ones out of milk cartons and pretzel sticks, but these interlocking logs are one of my favorite toys from my childhood. Please help me share that joy with my students when we return.
