My Project
I am a Special Education teacher who teaches at a diverse school with many low-income students. I use a website called BookSource to catalog all my classroom books and allow students to borrow them while still keeping track of who has what. The website has incredible features that track how well you are doing with diversifying your library. Looking at this function, I discovered that the diverse & own voice collection we received from our district just wasn't as expansive as I expected it to be.
According to the data in BookSource, I found that our classroom library is falling short on Autistic representation, Asian representation, Indigenous representation, and Latinx representation.
I also do not have nearly enough nonfiction titles to choose from.
Due to this, and the amount of my own money that has already gone to my classroom library, I am coming to DonorsChoose to expand my classroom library further! Please help my middle school students get the books they need to both expand their world view and see themselves on the pages.
