Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
There are many times it would be so convenient to do a quick search for a picture to illustrate a concept, or a map to show location. An iPad right next to me or in the hands of my students would make that so easy!
Sixty percent of my students are English Language Learners.
Many of their families are recent immigrants from Guatemala. For many of our students, their access to technology is at school or on their parent's phone. Building background knowledge and expanding vocabulary are important for success for my students. Our school is a dual language school, all of our students receive half of their instruction in English and half in Spanish.
My Project
With an iPad at our fingertips we can quickly access pictures, information, and apps to enhance the learning in the classroom. Following a link in our Time for Kids for more information, beginning a lesson with pictures to help understand the content being presented, using apps for additional practice or creating a project, all of these uses would be so much easier with an iPad right there at our fingertips.
This project will increase my students' understanding of the world around them by giving them one more way to access the outside world.
There are so many things my students are unfamiliar with, an iPad would put so much more at their finger tips.
