it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Welcome to the "Expanding Horizons Book Club," a unique initiative designed to broaden the perspectives of elementary students through the power of literature. Our current focus is a deeply moving book that tells the story of an Asian immigrant working at the front desk of a motel in a low-income area. This poignant narrative provides a window into the life of someone navigating the challenges and opportunities in a world different from what our students may have experienced.
In this book, readers will journey through the experiences of a character who, despite facing daily struggles, finds strength and resilience.
Through their eyes, students will gain insights into diverse cultural backgrounds, socioeconomic challenges, and the rich tapestry of human experiences that extend beyond their immediate surroundings.
Our goal is to foster empathy, understanding, and curiosity among young readers by exposing them to stories that reflect different ways of life. By engaging with this book, students will not only enhance their reading skills but also develop a broader worldview, empowering them to appreciate and respect the diversity of experiences that shape our world.
Join us in this enriching adventure as we explore new perspectives and inspire a generation of readers to dream big and see beyond their own neighborhoods. Your support helps make this journey possible and ensures that every child has the opportunity to discover and connect with stories that expand their horizons.
