My students need an Expanding Expression Tool Kit and accessories to help them improve and expand oral and written language skills, which is an essential part of academic and social language.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Coming from a low income school district, my students do not have the same advantages that schools from other districts may have. My students are motivated to learn. However, they have inadequate supplies. My students are enrolled in a speech and language program which is located in a low income district. They struggle with receptive language, expressive language, articulation, and fluency. My students enjoy coming to speech therapy and working on their goals. It is amazing to see their reactions when they learn a new strategy. My students need various repetitions and benefit from a multi-sensory approach. Students learn at different rates and it is important to give them their best possible outcome. My school is extremely supportive. However, being that we are in a high needs area, we are not provided with all of the supplies needed in speech to address all of the students objectives. Therefore, we are requesting the assistance from Donors Choose to assist us in reaching our goals. Thank you in advance.
My Project
Have you ever been called on and been asked to respond to a question, expand on a(n) idea, and/or write down your thoughts? I remember that feeling all too well. I knew the answer to the question but did not know how to organize my thoughts. Now imagine this same scenario with a student who demonstrates limited vocabulary and struggles with communicating in general. My speech and language students have difficulties with vocabulary and verbal expression. My students are enrolled in a speech and language program in a public elementary school which is located in a low income district. They have difficulties understanding , describing, recalling and using vocabulary.
The Expanding Expression tool would be a true game changer for my students.
The Expanding Expression tool, Additional EET strand, small student strand, and show and share/secret object guessing game bag will provide the students with the skills needed to learn new vocabulary, make associations, improve description tasks, expand utterances, write from prior knowledge, autobiographies, biographies, summarizing and more. The Expanding Expression tool provides a multi-sensory approach where students can learn to both organize and expand their thoughts both orally and through written work. In a district where not much is available, this tool can give my students the boost they need.
