My Students

Amid Philadelphia’s urban landscape are myriad of socioeconomic disparities which directly impact my students and their families. However, to an astonishing degree, my students continue to express their desire to learn, grow, and succeed. Each of my students have unique gifts and talents. However, many of them are victims of a vexing marginalization which threatens to diminish their opportunities, hopes, and dreams. To a crucial degree, having books that my students see themselves in will expand their inner vision and strengthen their hope.

My Project

W.E.B. Du Bois once wrote, "Education must not simply teach work - it must teach Life." Above and beyond teaching my students the foundation curriculum, I am equally committed to educating them about the principles of self-empowerment, and cultural awareness. We are at a time in place within America where many may argue there is a crucial need for African American children, in particular, to engage the unfiltered truth how where they come, who they are, and more critically, where they want to go. I am hopeful that with your support these books will strengthen their desire to achieve and commitment to success.
