Expanding Access to Poetry Books

Help me give my students exposure to poetry and poets with books like A River of Words: The Story of William Carlos Williams.

My Project

These books will help me to add another genre of books to my classroom library. My students currently only have a few poetry books to share. We are excited to increase our collection of books by including books about poets and different types of poetry.

Poetry helps students to explore language, emotion, and imagination.

We would like to include picture book poems, narrative poems, rhyming verse, free verse, haikus and limericks. These poetry books will increase students interests in reading a variety of topics and helping all students to be able to access materials on a variety of reading levels. We look forward to reading poems that are humorous, about nature, animals, and everyday experiences.

Poetry will also help us to learn about figurative language and poetic devices that may be used in our own writing!
