This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are taking amazing photographs! They have enjoyed sharing them in class, but it's time to share them with the world!
My students are facing classrooms with 40+ students, fewer school days in which to learn, and an education system that has devalued creativity and fun in learning.
Our school and our students face many challenges every day. California is in a budget crisis, and there are absolutely no funds available for even the basic school supplies necessary to run a classroom.
Our school is situated in a low socio-economic neighborhood and, therefore, our parents are not capable of supplying their children with much more than the basics for school. However, my students come to school each day with a passion for learning and an expectation that they will be competitive in high school and in their options for college and careers. They do not understand, nor should they have to, that the one thing separating them from students in schools just a few miles away is simply money. They have the intelligence, the creativity, and the drive... and they deserve the same education and opportunities!
My Project
I am requesting 33 8x10 picture frames so that at the end of this school year, students will choose their favorite photograph to display at a public exhibition. We will frame all of the photos, and place their written work beside them. The exhibition will take place at a local venue, outside of school, and will be open to students, families, and community members.
I am so excited for my students to open up and share their work with the world in a public exhibition!
They will have a chance to experience the feeling of pride and achievement when their families and members of our community come to see their amazing work! Nothing pushes students to achieve their greatness more than knowing that their work will be made public.
