My students need the Nintendo Wii console, 3 extra remotes, and an exercise game to able to maintain a healthy, active body and brain throughout our rigorous and demanding school year.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students are facing obesity problems that are affecting their health and academic participation. They lack the vigor needed to comprehend simple lessons due to their energy level. During recess time they sit on benches instead of playing. Making workouts fun will change these habits.
My students attend a 100% free lunch, public school.
They come from low income, hard working families. They enjoy learning new things and don't mind staying after school to master and receive support in areas that they are struggling with. Our school provides a safe, nurturing environment that promotes a rigorous academic program. Our caring staff has the student's best interest in mind, a healthier living style and a bright future.
My Project
My students are the sweetest children you can ever imagine meeting. They would be misjudged looking at them at a glance. They come from homes where both parents work 6 to 7 days a week. Their entertainment comes from the television. Their daily exercise comes from walking to school. We try our best to motivate them to live a healthy life style through our weekly health lessons and daily physical education. However, it is not enough. The Wii console along with the workout game will make exercising fun, engaging and motivating. No longer will I hear the groaning sounds when I say PE time. Instead they will be asking me constantly, "Is it Wii time?"
No longer will I have to remind the children to go to sleep early so that they aren't falling asleep in class.
Instead, they'll be so thrilled about coming to school to do their daily Wii workouts. Our day will consist of students actively engaged in every single activity throughout all academic areas. They will be excited and will always look forwards towards another engaging day in school. On the daily schedule it will no longer say P.E. time; Instead, they will see "Wii Time!"
